Burning Thoughts

And I shred up my bracket…

First of all let’s start with this: If you didn’t go crazy when Northern Iowa beat Kansas because your first reaction was about your bracket…Congrats you’re a dick…

It’s very evident that this years at-large field was weak but as a result this to me has been the most competitive and parody filled tourney since 2006. 2006 was the year George Mason made it to the Final Four. What was big about 2006 is that it marked the final year of the high school draft entry. Since that time we’ve had a lot of top heavy teams with freshmen that should be in the NBA overpowering smaller schools. By year four, the mid-majors seem to have caught up a little…

The Kansas upset is the biggest 2nd round upset to a top seed this century. 2004, Kentucky losing to Alabama-Birmingham was a shock but I think the difference is when you consider the one-and-done era of front loading talent and considering they were wire-to-wire the best team in the country all year it seemed that anything short of an Elite 8 appearance would be an upset…

How about the clutch shooting in the first weekend? Obviously Northern Iowa’s Ali Farokmanesh is the tournament darling with his two big 3’s against Kansas and UNLV but we’ve seen buzzer beaters from Korie Lucious of Michigan State, Ismael Smith of Wake Forest, and Danero Thomas of Murray State. Throw in four overtime games and wow what a weekend…

4 double digit seeds and 4 mid-majors. That’s the way the Sweet 16 should be…

The Sweet 16 game I’m looking forward to the most is Kentucky-Cornell. I want to see how many Cornell kids become financial advisors for Wildcats players next year and if they drop some Vector Calculus smack talk on them…

South Park on sex addiction was awesome. I could definitely buy the new Tiger Woods 2011 game. I can’t get enough…

I’ll revive my Final Four: replace Kansas with Ohio St. and I’ll take West Virginia over Syracuse in the championship…

Don’t ever become bracket guy. Enjoy the upsets. That’s what makes the tournament so great. Not your stupid fucking picks…

Nothing like spending a weekend bender of binge drinking only get food poisoning at the end…

Watching Selection Sunday for the first time in my life knowing Arizona would not be in the tournament was quite odd. The last time UA didn’t make the tournament I was just a sperm…

As for the tourney itself, I’m surprised Kansas got the most difficult path given their the top overall seed yet not surprised Duke would get the easiest path. The Dookies have Sweet 16 talent but maybe able to get through that region based on matchups…

My final four picks: Kansas, Syracuse, West Virginia, and my sleeper Baylor. I’ll take Kansas over West Virginia…

New season of South Park starts Wednesday. Absolutely beautiful…

The more things about Tiger Woods the more I realize Derek Jeter might be the smartest athlete ever…

Memo to frat guy, you don’t buy shots of cheap vodka to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day…

Make sure to never thaw chicken out for too long, you won’t recover for three days…

The calendar has turned to March, let the Madness begin…

I hate conference tournaments. A stupid cash grab and essentially telling the little guy that the first 30 games don’t matter. That being said…Come on UA and make it 26…

If you like British comedian Ricky Gervais, watch his HBO show. Not for Ricky but for his buddy Carl Pilkington. This guy’s retarded rants and conversation are hilarious…

My Oscar picks were straight chalk. Have to say I’m a little surprised Avatar didn’t win best picture given James Cameron’s reputation but you can’t go wrong with The Hurt Locker…

Handicapping the NHL trade deadline, the big winners were the Capitals, Penguins and Coyotes. Each team added depth to fit their strengths. I say we have 12 playoff locks, 6 in each conference: (East: Washington, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, New Jersey, Ottawa, Philadelphia) (West: Chicago, San Jose, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Colorado)…

Oh Big Ben, why the hell are you in a bathroom at a college bar? You weren’t coached by Rick Pitino…

Anybody remember Chip?…

If a woman tells you she’s happy you don’t live close to her because she doesn’t want to be spoiled sexually is that a good thing?…

Man what a hockey game. The USA-Canada game was one for the ages. Arguably the second best, even in defeat, hockey game in USA hockey history, the Americans showed a ton of grit and Ryan Miller deserved MVP honors. For Canada, they had to win. After losing to the US a week ago, Canada had a reality check. It wasn’t going to be easy. They regrouped, blasted Russia and pulled off 4 wins in 6 days. Congrats Canucks…

Team USA and the NHL should be happy that for two weeks it captured the nation and Sunday many people who had never watched sat down for 3 hours of national pride. While people won’t become glued to hockey, you could see 1 of the 20 people who didn’t watch hockey beforehand tune into the Stanley Cup playoffs. This is the time for the NHL to capitalize. Start with getting Versus back on Directv then getting off Versus…

Spent the weekend in Austin. I kept it weird. I recommend hitting up the Salt Lick in Driftwood at anytime…

In other Olympic news, I give props to Team USA winning the medal count for the first time since 1932. The 4-man bobsled winning for the first time ever and big ups to a guy I trashed four years ago named Bodie Miller. It’s good he regrouped and sure enough took home a Gold and a couple other medals…

Bummer for Purdue and Robbie Hummel. Purdue looked like a Final Four team. Now you have to wonder if they’ll even win the Big Ten and maintain at least a #2 seed. Boiler Down…

The Funny or Die TV Show is actually funny…

Man losing in overtime after tying it with 24 seconds still hurts…
